Tips on Nutrition for All Ages

By Leila Novembre

An individual's perception of nutrition can vary greatly depending on who you ask. Not all food that tastes good is bad for you. These tips below will demonstrate how you can do this.

Make sure you drink the right milk. Skim milk contains the same vitamins and minerals as whole milk without the added fat and calories. Switching over to low-fat milk is the perfect way to keep your body in top condition and give it the nutrients it needs.

Be careful when eating salad; salad dressing is high in calories. Eating salads is a great way to eat healthy, but be careful about dowsing the salad ingredients with too much salad dressing, which is only adding lots of calories. Try to use natural, light dressings.

Be careful to avoid extra calories when choosing a salad. Many ingredients are usually added for taste, but defeat the purpose of choosing salad as a healthy alternative. These ingredients include egg yolks, croutons, dressing or bacon bits. To give a salad a little extra flavor, and still keep it nutritious, you can add egg whites, low fat dressing and some type of citrus juice.

Eating protein will keep you fuller for a longer period of time and will keep your blood sugar under control. Each of the three balanced meals you eat should include lean protein. Lean sources of meat other than fish include turkey, beans, tofu, soy products and more.

Great foods to eat that will increase your serotonin levels include baked potatoes, whole wheat pasta and oatmeal. The increased fiber in these foods will make you feel full longer. Junk foods only result in a sugar high that will make you crash later. Make sure you remove junk food from your life for a healthier lifestyle.

Obesity is plaguing America, due to our love of fast food. A lot of this is blamed on the poor nutrition of fast food. You should aim to minimize or eliminate your fast food intake, and have your lunch prepared ahead of time, instead of eating at a fast food place.

Replace a portion of the sugary drinks you consume each day with good old-fashioned water. Since these drinks are convenient to grab and consume, it is easy to lose track of how many you have had. Once you are aware of the totals, you will be able to see where you are going overboard.

When you order your food at a restaurant, ask for condiments and dressings on the side. This allows you to control how much dressing you use, which will help you to save many calories. Vinegar and olive oil are good choices, because both are good for you.

You know enough about nutrition by now to start adopting healthier habits. Keeping yourself informed is part of staying healthy. Make sure to acquire additional sources of reliable information regularly. It can help you live stronger and have you feeling at optimum health in no time.
