Keeping False Italian Olive Oil Away

By Rob Sutter

The Italian olive oil industry is easily one of the most detailed and sometimes this may not be for all of the right reasons. While the product itself is very good, this only goes for the type of oil that are legitimate. There are many products which might have been tampered with, whether it is a matter of mixing other oils together or what have you. Whatever the case may be, there are ways for you to evade instances of fraud when it comes to this kind of oil.

First of all, you have to keep in mind that the fridge test does not always work. For those who do not know, the fridge test is when a bottle of Italian olive oil is stored in the refrigerator, at which point it should become cloudy if it is a legitimate product. However, authorities along the lines of Bellucci Premium can tell you that this process does not always work. It's been said that many oil producers winterize their products so that they do not become solid, so this process isn't absolute.

Italian olive oil can be purchased on a local basis, provided you are close enough in order to go about this. The truth of the matter is that, when this happens, you have a much better idea of how it is that they are able to cultivate such a type of oil. When you buy conventional oil from a supermarket, for example, you do not have that same luxury. While not everyone can purchase this oil locally, those who can should be mindful of their ability to do so.

If you are going to take it upon yourself to buy this kind of oil, make sure that it is stored in a dark bottle. Clearer bottles are not going to be as useful, since they fail to filter out sunlight, meaning that the oil within can suffer from oxidation. What this means is that all of the healthful properties within can dissipate. Darker bottles, on the other hand, are better able to keep the contents within protected from the various elements of the outside world.

Hopefully, with these points brought into consideration, the process of buying olive oil is rendered easier. With a number of imitation products out there, customers have to be wary about where exactly they put their money. Without question, going with a local seller is for the best but what happens when such a luxury isn't had? If this is the case, make sure that you go about research in order for you to run a lesser risk of picking up a bottle of oil that isn't as good.
